Okore Kalu has been in the prison for 5 years and during his stay in custody he learnt sewing which he can use his new skill to start his own business. This is just one example of how rehabilitation programs can have a positive impact on convicts and their communities. These programs not only help convicts to find work and become productive members of society, but they also reduce the rate of recidivism and make our communities safer..."
This the event of
presentation of sewing machine to an ex-convict Okore Kalu which was done by
the Incharge station ACC Onyemulu Victor Echimikpe the incharge station and the
2I/C Admin CSC Ezeala Nwabueze Chimezie, also present at the handing over
presentation are the ASC I Eke Okereke Ochea I/C Tailoring workshop and also in
attendance is ASC II Eke Kalu I/C Records and ASC II Agwu O K I/C welfare, also
in attendance is the family of the ex-convict.
This sewing machine was
donated by Mezie and Agnes Foundation Ututu Arochukwu, Abia State on the 15th
January, 2024.
During the presentation of
this sewing machine the I/C Station ACC Onyemulu Victor Echimikpe said one of
our responsibilities as correctional officers is to rehabilitate inmates when
they are in custody, offenders when they are here, and to train them in various
vocations, when they leave here we don’t just end it like that, we do what we
call after care measures to ensure we follow up that the inmates is doing very
well when he or she leaves here.
As a result of that we were
presented with these items by Mezie and Agnes Foundation Ututu Arochukwu when
we told them that we had an inmate that will be discharged from our facility
very soon.
We ask you (Okore Kalu) to
make judicious use of this machine. Because you are out of custody doesn’t mean
that we will not follow up in making sure you make judicious use of this
machine presented to you.

Speaking after receiving
the Machine, the ex-offender (Okore Kalu) thanked the donator Mezie Agnes
Foundation and pray that God will bless them greatly saying that he will make
judicious use of the machine handed over to him, he also thanked the Nigerian
Correction Service Medium Security Custodial Centre Arochukwu for the
reformation, rehabilitation and reintegrating him back to the society in a
special way.
In light of the above the
family also thanked the donator and the Officers and men of the Custodial
Centre for finding their son worthy for this donation.
The event came to an end
with a handshake and photograph.
We bless God for making
this day a remarkable one in the life of this inmate Okore Kalu.
